A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Monday, January 27, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanover. Pastor Donna Florio officiated. Mae Nieman played the organ while the congregation sang "Precious Lord Take My Hand" and "How Great Thou Art." David Heuer sang "It's No Secret What God Can Do." Pauline was born February 20, 1938, at Hanover, KS, daughter of Paul and Helen (Allerheiligen) Rettig. During her younger years, she attended a one room school house and in 1956 graduated from Hanover High School. On November 21, 1959, she married Benny Lowery at Lanham, KS. Benny’s Air Force career took them many places and on many adventures. They lived in Lincoln, NE, Guam, Texas, Alaska, California, Germany and finally, Colorado Springs in 1976. They enjoyed Colorado so much they decided to make it their permanent home. Pauline enjoyed cooking for her family, especially for holiday celebrations. She also kept busy by knitting baby hats for a hospital, making and selling crafts, collecting Hummels, going to the casino, dining out and shopping. One of the activities Ben and Pauline enjoyed was traveling. While living in Germany, they traveled to France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Holland and Austria. After retirement, her favorite place to vacation was Arizona for the month of March, and Branson, MO, with friends. She loved life, her family, and most of all her four grandchildren Michael, Karen, Bennet and Justin. She stayed very involved in their lives, having them visit for a week during the summer so she could spend quality time with them. She also attended countless band concerts, cross country races, soccer, baseball and football games. Pauline was the most energetic, hard working person, you’d ever meet. She cherished life and made the most of every single day. Pauline chose not to allow the disease to define or slow her down. She continued to host family gatherings during her four year fight with cancer. Pauline never complained and continued to live life to the fullest. She was the heart of the Lowery family and will be greatly missed by both friends and family. Survivors include her beloved husband, Ben (Thank you for always being there for me.); daughters, Donna (David) Rooks and Glenda (Jim) Beemer; grandchildren, Michael, Karen, Bennet and Justin; aunt, Elda Allerheiligen; nephews, Ron (Marge) Schlabach and Darrell (Debbie) Schlabach; niece, Cheri Flear; and sister-in-law, Beverly Rettig (Jerry) Hecox. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Marvin Rettig and Melvin Rettig; and sister, Delores Schlabach. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is established to the Hanover City Cemetery. Contributions may be sent in care of Hanover Mortuary. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Pauline Ann Lowery, please visit our flower store.
