Norma Thompson, 79, of Marysville, KS, died Monday, March 10, 2014 at Cambridge Place in Marysville.Visitation was Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m.A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 14 at the United Methodist Church in Marysville.  The Rev. Dale Lewis officiated.Evelyn Falen was the organist.  Pat Breeding & Wayne Kruse sang “The Prayer”.  Wayne Kruse sang “Because He Lives” and Ashley Mason sang “I Have Felt the Touch of God”. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Norma was born May 18, 1934 at Westmoreland, Kan., daughter of William and Leonora (Gilbert) Smitheran. She graduated from Fairmont High School, Fairmont, Neb. and attended Doane College where she sang. She met Lawrence Thompson in Lincoln, Neb., and they were married on May 1, 1959. Norma worked for Continental Oil in Lincoln and was a bookkeeper at Donley Dort Medical Supply for many years. In 1971, they bought a café in Uehling, Neb. In 1972, they moved to Marysville when Lawrence became the Assistant Manager at Safeway there. After moving to Marysville she began working for the Marshall County Conservation District until her retirement in 2003. She also sang for many funerals. While in Lincoln she was a singing member of the Lincoln Symphony Chorale. She also was a member of PEO, Eastern Star and United Methodist Women. Norma enjoyed going to the Helvering Center to eat and socialize, shopping and traveling. She visited relatives in England several times. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Bert Smitheram; and sister, Sylvia Warne. Survivors include two daughters, Deb (Doug) Landoll, Marysville, and Diane Thompson, Sterling, NE; one grandson, Hunter Bartels; sister-in-law, Shirley (Harry) Hall, Milford, CT. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later.  Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
