Marvin Keith Burnett, 84, Hanover, died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at Bryan LGH West, Lincoln. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 14, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hanover. The Rev. Jim Hoover and Sister Marilyn Wall officiated. Janet Fritschi played the organ while soloist Kelsey Koss sang “Amazing Grace,” “Peace is Flowing Like a River” and “How Great Thou Art.” The church choir sang “The old Rugged Cross” and “The Strife Is Over.” Pallbearers were Dennis, Ron, John, Steve, Ray and Mike Burnett and Tim Koss. Honorary pallbearers were Doug Bruna, Kevin Hynek, Harold Metz, Elmer Brown and Clarence Turk. Burial was in the church cemetery with Knights of Colombus providing the fourth degree service. Marvin Burnett was born June 1, 1924, at the family farm near Strawberry, the son of Frank and Hazel Bonar Burnett. He went to grade school in the Strawberry area and graduated from Morrowville High School. He farmed until moving to town. He worked at various jobs, including a filling station. He moved back to the farm and raised crops, cattle and horses. He was a member of St. John’s Church and was a third and fourth degreed Knight. He enjoyed tilling the soil and watching crops grow; hunting and fishing; raising Black Angus and horses; and good food, good times and good friendships. Survivors include special friend, Val Overwald of Hanover; one brother, James of Chicago; and one sister, Ruth Rochek of Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial fund has been established and contributions may be sent in care of the mortuary.
