Betty (John) Newman 75, of Newport, NC, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Bayview Nursing and Rehab Center. Services will be held Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Gethsemane Original Free Will Baptist Church (Tuscarora) with Rev. Justin Barnett officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Services will be held May 3, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville, KS. Burial will be in Marysville City Cemetery. Betty retired from Atlantic Beach police Department as a law enforcement officer. She also recorded and published her own music and was a local business owner in Newport, NC. Betty is survived by her children, James William Oldson, Overland Park, KS, Teressa Mae Oldson MD, Greenville, SC, Larry Russell Oldson, Kansas City, MO, Cindy Oldson Lamielle, New Bern, NC, Michael Scott Oldson, Huntersville, NC, Robert Arnold John, Newport, NC, Richard Reece John, Newport, NC; siblings, Ralph Frederick Newman, Marie Darlymple, both of Marysville, Rosemary Roepke, Grand Island, NE, Marilyn Land, Blue Rapids, KS, Paul Newman, Annabelle, UT; thirteen grandchildren, Mindy Llewyn Dawn, Miranda Lynn, Maycee Rae, McKenna Lee, Valerie Shea, Tammy Lynn, Carson Russell, Michelle Dawn, Amy Danielle, William Reece, Ramie Alexina, Hayden Clark, Riley Gavin, and 14 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death was Hunter James.
