Walda Nietfeld Hand, 81, of Marysville, KS, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. Visitation was Thursday, May 15, from 10 to 5 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 15, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 16 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated. Bob Welch played the organ while the church choir sang “Here I Am Lord”, “Ave Maria”, "On Eagles Wings”, “Song of Farewell” and “How Great Thou Art”. The pallbearers were Mike Wetter, Phil Holle, Russ Ogg, Frank Nietfeld, Mark Wetter, Francis Goeckel, Steve Nietfeld and Tony Nietfeld. Burial was in St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery. Walda was born August 30, 1932, at Herkimer, KS, daughter of Frank and Ida (Heckmann) Nietfeld. In 1950, she graduated from Marysville High School. She went on to work as an office manager in the oil industry. She lived in Kansas City, Houston, Tulsa, Nashville, San Antonio and Rockville, MO, working for Gulf City Service and Chevron. Walda retired in 1985. In 1996, Walda was married to Jack Hand. He preceded her in death in 2005. Walda then moved back to Marysville to be close to her family. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Leo Nietfeld; and sister, Paula Holle. Survivors include her sisters, Mary Wetter, Marysville, and Hedwig Goeckel, Hanover, KS; and nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date.
