John "Jac" Cohorst

John "Jac" A. Cohorst, 63, of Marysville, Kan., died Friday, June 6, 2014. Visitation was Monday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 10, at St. Gregory's. Father Pat Sullivan will officiate. Bob Welch played the organ while the church choir sang “Here I Am Lord”, “Open My Eyes”, “On Eagles Wings”, “You Are Mine” and “Alleluia, Sing to Jesus”. The pallbearers were Jeff Moore, Tim Blocker, Jacob Cohorst, Jason Cohorst, Phillip Cohorst, Aaron Traphagen, Johnathan Moore, Auston Traphagen and Ashton Traphagen. Burial was in the church cemetery. Jac was born November 19, 1950 at Marysville, Kan., son of Carl and Erleine (Hardenbrook) Cohorst. In 1970, he graduated from Valley Heights High School. He farmed with his father and served in the National Guard for 8 years. Jac lived in Blue Rapids until moving to Marysville in 2000. Jac enjoyed his truck, visiting with family, reading to children, watching old comedies, playing games including cards and dice. Survivors include two brothers, Don Cohorst, Blue Rapids, Kan., and Tony Cohorst, Marysville; four sisters, Carlene Moore, Marysville, Chris Cohorst and Annie Patterson, both of Auburn, Kan., and Debbie Traphagen, Carbondale, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Joyce Blocker. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
