Alvin L. Meyer, 72, of Marysville, KS, died Monday, July 7, 2014 at The University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Visitation was Friday, July 11, from 1 to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 12 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville. Rev. Roger Henning officiated. Carol Wright played the organ while the congregation sang “How Great Thou Art”, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, "On Eagle's Wings" and “Amazing Grace”. The pallbearers were Jeff Dooley, Travis Treff, Konner Treff, Caleb Meyer, James Baker and Eric Stichternath. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery with Military Honors provided by SMN&R American Legion Post #163. Alvin was born January 6, 1942 at Marysville, KS, to Alvin O. and Verda F. (Drever) Meyer. In 1960, he graduated from Marysville High School. He spent three years in the U.S. Army and one year with the Army National Guard. On August 30, 1970, he married Paula Holle at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville. Alvin was a lifelong farmer. He began farming with his father in 1960. Alvin loved farming and working side by side his children. He shared his expertise and knowledge of establishing a successful farm operation that received the Soil Conversation and Farm Bureau Family of the Year award in 2011. His farming operation consisted of crops, black angus cattle and hogs. Farming and family was his world. On April 24, 2008 he was given a second chance on life by receiving a heart transplant at UNMC. This allowed him to continue to do what he loved to do and do best. . .FARMING. Alvin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family and attending activities of his children and grandchildren. He will be missed by many. Survivors include his wife, Paula; three sons, Chuck (Jessica) Meyer, Marysville, Greg Meyer and James Meyer, both of Waterville; three daughters, Cindy Meyer and fiancé, Jeff Dooley, Dakota Dunes, SD, Melisa (Travis) Treff, Waterville, KS, and Debra (James) Baker, Marysville; and thirteen grandchildren. Memorials will be directed towards organ donation since he received the gift of life in 2008. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
