Sandra "Sandy" Jo Gardner, 80, of Marysville, KS, died Monday, July 7, 2014 at Kindred Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Visitation was Thursday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 11 at Kinsley Mortuary. Rev. Dale Lewis officiated. Gail Gilkerson was the organist. Rev. Dale Lewis sang “How Great Thou Art”. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Lynette, Brooklyn, Jenna & Emily sang "Dancing In the Sky”. The pallbearers were Chris Zarger, Louis Svoboda, Raymond Tarvin, Jeff Tarvin, TJ Sickels and Michael Frank. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Sandy was born May 21, 1934 at Marysville to Earl and Anna (Grauer) Tarvin. She was the baby of fifteen brothers and sisters. On August 11, 1957, she was united in marriage to Merlin Gardner. They later divorced. Sandy enjoyed attending her great-grandchildren’s activities, spending time with her family, and playing pitch and chickenfoot. She enjoyed cooking, baking, especially cookies for her co-workers and family and crocheting. Sandy also liked her occasional casino trips with her daughter and sister. She worked for Tension Envelope in Marysville for 21 years until her retirement in 2001. She then worked as a cook at Little Haps in Home City until she began as a Bakery Associate and later Grocery Associate at Walmart in Marysville in 2005. There she worked for 9 years. Survivors include her daughter, Merlene (Larry) Miller, Marysville; sister, LouEtta (Pete) Parr, Overland Park; two grandchildren, Adam (Angela) Miller, and Lynette Miller and fiance’ Jon Esslinger and his son, Jay; six great-grandchildren, Camden Esslinger, Adreanna Miller, Ariona Miller, Christian Miller, Brooklyn Miller and Jenna Miller; step great-granddaughter, Emily Gonzalez; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; and fourteen brothers and sisters, Zoe Anderson, Carl Ross Tarvin, Earl Tarvin, Emma Byfield, Gayle Zentz, Betty Andrews, Georgia Wheeler, Merle Tarvin, Patricia Ferris, Ruth Wellington, Frank Tarvin, Joan Svoboda, Jerry Tarvin and Judy Remmers. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
