Elmer L. Duensing, 92, Marysville, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Cambridge Place, Marysville. Visitation was Friday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 19, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Marysville. Rev. Dr. Kevin Golden and Rev. Roger Henning officiated. Carol Wright played the organ while the congregation sang “From Greenland’s Icy Mountain”, “I Know My Redeemer Lives” and “God Be with You Till We Meet Again”. The pallbearers were Greg Golden, Jeremy Duensing, Jason Duensing, Chris Duensing, Kirk Duensing and Gary Holle. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Elmer was born on August 26, 1921 to Louis and Louise (Stolte) Duensing at Mission SD. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran, Mission, SD and confirmed, June 16, 1935, at Zion Lutheran. One of Elmer’s fondest memories of Mission, SD, was delivering milk to Bob Barker’s family and swimming with him in Antelope Creek. He graduated from Hanover High School in 1940. On September 10, 1942, Elmer entered the U.S. Army and served overseas in Greenland. He was honorably discharged on December 5, 1945. Elmer worked as a rural mail carrier from 1949 until he retired in 1988. He served as State President of the Rural Letter Carrier Assn. Elmer would help his dad do carpentry work, building and remodeling many houses in the area. In 1960, Elmer rode in the Pony Express 100th Anniversary reride. He was a member of the American Legion, National Rural Letter Carriers, the Kiwanis Club and Buzzards, a coffee club. Elmer was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran, Bremen and sang in the Adult Choir. After moving to Marysville, he was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran, Marysville and served as an elder for six years. Elmer also served as Zone President of LLL and President of Congregation, two years. On December 25, 1944, Elmer was united in marriage to Velma Bluhm at Zion Lutheran Church, Herkimer. She preceded him in death, May 1, 2014. His parents; an infant brother and sister also preceded him in death. Survivors include children, Judy (Jim) Golden, Carthage, MO, Lonnie (Bev) Duensing, Beatrice, NE, and Kenneth (Zita) Duensing, Blue Rapids, KS; brothers-in-law, Oral Beckmann, Longmont, CO, Vernon Bluhm, Escondido, CA; and nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated by the family later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville, KS.
