Darrel Dean Roever, 69, of Home, KS, died Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. Visitation was Sunday, August 10, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family received friends from 2 to 6 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Monday, August 11, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville. Rev. Roger Henning officiated. Carol Wright played the organ while Shelly Polson sang "Old Rugged Cross” and “Abide With Me”. The congregation sang “How Great Thou Art”. The pallbearers were Jim Rombeck, Steve Rombeck, Rob Rombeck, Ronnie Roever, Mike Griffee, Doug Biswell, Russ Breshears and David Holthaus. The honorary pallbearers were Willie Armstrong, Joe Haggard, Tommy Brinegar, Lynn Holthaus, Doug Minge, Dennis Holthaus, Darren Brown, Alex Rombeck, Matt Bergman, Kenny Koch, Larry Wassenberg, Gary Forshee, Rob Roever and Ron Schmitz. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Darrel was born on April 18, 1945 at Marysville, KS, to Wilbur F. and Hilda E. (Minge) Roever. When Darrel was 13, his father died forcing him to quit school after the 8th grade and begin farming. He ran a farrow to finish operation, raised a cow/calf herd, raised crops and did custom swathing and baling with his son, David. He also worked for the Hanover Locker and Belleville Locker Plant, did custom weed wiping and anhydrous for area farmers, drove an Ag-Lime truck and worked for FitzGerald Dozing. On March 26, 1967, he was united in marriage to Elaine Brown. Darrel loved riding horses and took part in the Pony Express Re-ride. Darrel taught his children and grandchildren to ride and took great pride in his family. Survivors include his wife, Elaine, of the home; children, David (Lisa) Roever and Julie (Jay) Haggard, all of Home; sister, Dorothy (Al) Rombeck, Home; sister-in-law, Evelyn Biswell; four grandchildren, Jayton Haggard, Jonathan Haggard, Derek Roever and Macy Roever; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Richard and Lela Brown; brother-in-law, Joe Biswell; and nephew, Jeff Holle. A memorial fund is established and the family will designate later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville.
