Helen Rosella Kabriel, 88, of Summerfield, KS, died Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. Visitation was on Thursday, August 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home in Axtell. The rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Thursday, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Summerfield, KS. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Friday, August 22, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Father Albert Hauser will officiate. Sheryl Burger sang the hymns for the mass, "How Great Thou Art", "Prayer of St. Francis", "Oh Lord, I'm Not Worthy", and "Song of Farewell" accompanied by Brenda Helmerichs on the organ. The pallbearers were her grandsons, Brian Salts, Nathan Stock, Travis Hardin, Tyler Stock, Alex Scheideler, Adam Schuster, Chad Beckmann, Nate Schmidt and Kyle Rankin. Burial was at the Summerfield Cemetery. Helen was born May 5, 1926 southwest of St. Bridget to Victor John and Florence A. (Wenzl) Creevan. She was baptized, made her first communion and was confirmed in St. Bridget Catholic Church. She lived in the Axtell and Summerfield area most of her life. Helen attended rural grade schools, graduated from Axtell High School in 1944 and attended Emporia State Teachers College at Emporia for 6 summers. She taught 4 years in rural schools and 3 years in Osage City, KS (Grades 2 & 3). On June 18, 1951, she married Milosh Edward Kabriel at Holy Family Catholic Church. They lived south of Summerfield for 24 years. When Milosh retired in 1975 they moved into Summerfield. Helen worked for Campbell’s Soup Company at Tecumseh, NE, from December 1968 until retiring in May 1981. Since then she has worked various jobs in Summerfield including St. Patrick’s House, Local Cafe and volunteered as a reporter/proof reader at the Summerfield Sun. She served on the library board and was an active R.S.V.P. volunteer for over 15 years. In her later years she enjoyed the activities and outings involved in “The Red Hat’s Club.” Her hobbies included reading, vegetable and flower gardens, canning, embroidery, patchwork quilts and making quillows for numerous family members. She loved to sew and made most of the clothes for her daughters growing up. Helen also sewed several of her daughter’s prom and bridesmaid’s dresses. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milosh Kabriel; parents; and a brother, Greg Creevan. Survivors include her daughters, Jeanette (Rolly) Salts, Bloomfield, NE, Victoria Kabriel, Manhattan, KS, Debra (Newell) Stock, Summerfield, KS, Karen (Gale) Hardin, Blue Springs, NE, and Rene (Dave) Scheideler, Ord, NE; brothers, Lloyd Creevan, Stockton, KS and Gerald Creevan, Wymore, NE; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Helen’s fondest memories include celebrating the holidays surrounded by her family. She especially enjoyed Sunday afternoon drives, attending neighborhood card parties, and attending social dances doing Waltz and Polka dancing with Milosh. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home, Axtell.
