Charles W. Downie, 74, of Marysville, KS, died Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Bryan Medical Center West in Lincoln, NE Visitation was Sunday, September 7, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family received friends from 1 to 3 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Monday, September 8 at the Church of Christ in Marysville. Dennis Holst and Rodger Lane officiated. The congregation sang “How Great Thou Art”, “Amazing Grace” and “I Come To The Garden Alone”. The pallbearers were Dale Prebyl, Levi Oehm, Dan Hooyer, Richard Turner, Melvin Haller, Jr. and Raymond Oehm, Jr. The honorary pallbearers were Ed Prebyl, Greg Schmitz, Orville Thomas, Norman Severns, Delbert Ackerman and Raymond Oehm, Sr. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Charles was born December 3, 1939 at Oketo, KS, son of William and Christine (Hofeling) Downie. He attended rural grade school near Oketo. His father died at an early age so Charles began doing the farm work. He later went to work for the Marshall County Road Department for many years, then worked at the Marysville Elementary School as a Janitor and also worked at the Marysville City Cemetery. On December 3, 1977 he married Fay K. Ackerman at Oketo. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, family and fishing. His parents preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Fay; and daughter, Mary (Ryan) Haller, all of Marysville. Memorial may be made to the Church of Christ and sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
