Life-long Hanover resident Dorothy Elizabeth Wetter Bruna passed away September 4, 2014 in Manhattan, KS, at the age of 82. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. Visitation was Sunday, September 7, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hanover Mortuary. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Sunday, at St. John's Catholic Church, Hanover. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Monday, September 8, at St. John's Catholic Church. Father David Metz officiated. The readers were Jason Sheeley and her granddaughters Kristi Lockamy, Brigitte Bruna, Marie Schmitz and Victoria Welch. Kelly Smith was the organist. Abby Whitney sang “Remember Me”. The Toby Bruna family sang “Angels Among Us”. Kelly and the church choir sang “Ave Maria”, “Prayer of St. Francis”, “On Eagles Wings” and “Going Home”. Offertory gifts were brought up by her grandchildren Brandy Bruna, Erica Schmitz, Brianna Schmitz, Michelle Rombeck, Olivia Welch, and Lance Welch. The pallbearers were her grandsons John McKeever, Matt Sheeley, Michael Bruna, Justin Bruna, Clinton Bruna, Collin Bruna, Anthony Bruna and Wesley Whitney. The honorary pallbearers were grandsons Lucas Welch, Lance Welch, Dylan Huntley and Michael Bruna. Burial was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Dorothy was born February 10, 1932 in Hanover, KS, to Joseph and Victoria (Smetana) Wetter. She was born the sixth of eight kids and was raised on the family farm near Hanover. She attended Sunnyside Grade School. On August 23, 1950 she married Wesley O. Bruna of Hanover. To this union twelve children were born. She spent her life raising their children. After she retired, she worked at the Hanover School Cafeteria. Dorothy was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and was active with St. John’s Altar Society, American Legion Post 306 Auxiliary, Unique Ingenuers, Red Hatters and Ballard’s Fall Club of Barnes. During retirement she enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, playing cards with friends, and trips to the casino. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wesley on October 3, 2006; grandson, Travis Sheeley; granddaughter, Sophie Bruna; brother, Joe Wetter; and sisters, Marie Doebele and Gertrude Kramer. Survivors include her children, Barbara Sheeley and husband Tom, Allen, KS, Arnold Bruna and wife Linda, Waterville, KS, Victoria Bruna, Hanover, Leslie Bruna and wife Dolores, Hanover, Donna Schmitz and husband Tom, Hiawatha, KS, Gary Bruna, Hanover, Shirley Whitney and husband Marlin, Manhattan, KS, Todd Bruna, Washington, KS, Brad Bruna and wife Misty, Ridgecrest, CA, Amy Huntley and husband Chris, Broken Arrow, OK, Dana Welch and husband Dave, Nebraska City, NE, and Kimberly Bruna, Chicago, IL; siblings, Irene Wise, Orange, CA, Lloyd Wetter and Ray Wetter, both of Hanover, and Barbara Cheney, Shawnee, KS; 26 energetic grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and countless relatives. A memorial fund has been established and will be shared with the Hanover Hospital, St. John’s Catholic Church and St. John’s Catholic School, where all their children attended.
