Many strangers felt his kindness and generosity. He will greatly be missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the community as well. He married JoLynne Robeson in 1978 and they had three children. They later divorced. On September 8, 2006, Allen married Linda Holle.
