June C. Luebcke, 89, of Marysville, KS, died Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. Visitation was Tuesday, September 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Tuesday at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 24 at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated. Rosemary Forst played the organ while the church choir sang “Be Not Afraid”, “Bread, Blessed and Broken”, “Only a Shadow”, “You Are Mine” and “Alleluia, Sing to Jesus”. The pallbearers were Kevin Wright, Gideon Wright, Steve Friedrichs, Dave Friedrichs, Leon Wassenberg and Steve Vering. Burial was in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery. June was born June, 5, 1925 on a farm near Downs, KS, the daughter of Ott and Geneva (Leach) Schoen. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School and Marymount College in Salina. On January 22, 1949 she was united in marriage to Leo Luebcke at Marysville. She worked as a social worker at the Marshall County Welfare Department. She was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, St. Gregory’s Quilters and Marysville Public Library Book Club. June would dry herbs and often made hand-made Christmas ornaments with her grandchildren from the dried herbs, fabric and buttons. She enjoyed quilting, rug hooking and rug braiding. She was an avid reader and passed along her love of books to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed planting and tending to her garden with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo on January 7, 2002; and sister, Sharon Garrett. Survivors include her children, Anne (Art) McWhite and Jane Lewis, both of Arvada, CO, Laura Benton and Theresa Luebcke, both of Phoenix, AZ, Clare (Larry) Cook, Lenexa, KS, Joe (Catherine) Luebcke, Beaver Crossing, NE, and John (Diane) Luebcke, Marysville; twelve grandchildren, two step-granddaughters, and twelve great-grandchildren. A memorial fund is established to St. Gregory’s Catholic School, Marysville Public Library or Meadowlark Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
