Gretchen M. Ewing, 92, a lifelong resident of Frankfort, Kansas, passed away very suddenly on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville, Kansas. Visitation was Tuesday, October 14, from Noon to 8 p.m. at Padden Funeral Chapel in Frankfort. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 15, at the United Methodist Church in Frankfort. Rev. Michael L. McKee officiated. Jodi Turnbull played the organ while Steve Gleason sang “Jesus Loves Me” and “Amazing Grace”. The pallbearers were Larry Swanson, Rod Stewart, Kurt Stewart, Tim Haughton, Jim Stewart and David Ewing. Burial was in the Frankfort City Cemetery. Gretchen was born on December 27, 1921 at Frankfort, the youngest of 12 children to John T. and Lulu Gibson. Gretchen graduated from Frankfort High School in the class of 1939. She worked for the government ASCS office in Marysville for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Frankfort. She also belonged to several card clubs as well as the Red Hat Society. Gretchen was also on the Frankfort City Cemetery Board for many years. On July 6, 1992, she married Eldon Ewing at the United Methodist Church in Frankfort. They spent many wonderful hours fishing, which they both loved to do. In her later years she was a resident of the Frankfort Community Care Home, where she enjoyed eating ice cream and playing bingo to win her favorite Hershey candy bars. Her sweet and caring nature and positive outlook was an inspiration to all who knew her. Gretchen will be dearly missed by many. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldon, on January 6, 2014; and 11 siblings. Memorial contributions may be made out to the Activity Fund at the Frankfort Community Care Home and can be sent in care of the Padden Funeral Chapel in Frankfort.
