Leo Goeckel, 99, Hanover, died Tuesday, October 21 at his home. Visitation will be from noon until 5:30 p.m., Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Hanover Mortuary, Hanover. Rosary will be prayed 7:30, Sunday, October 26 at St. John's Catholic Church, Hanover. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 27 at St. John's Catholic Church. Fr. David Metz will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Leo Louis Goeckel, the youngest of thirteen children, was born on August 6, 1915 to Joseph and Anna (Ruhkamp) Goeckel at Hanover. He was a lifetime farmer and served with the Army 989th Engineer Division in Germany, during WWII. Leo was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the Hanover American Legion and he served on the Soil Conservation board. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. On April 12, 1955 he was united in marriage to Mary Martin. She survives. Other survivors include his son, Ronald Goeckel, Hanover, daughters, Dianne (Chuck) Garber Hanover, Connie (Alan) Ronnebaum, Axtell, Phyllis (Andrew) Ohlde, Linn, Lisa (Stuart) Schwarz, Wamego, Danita (Marvin) Deters, Manhattan; twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Henry, Albert, Frank, Anthony, Bernard, George; sisters, Rose, Josephine, Louise, Elizabeth, infant twin brother and sister, Clara and Ludwig; son, Daniel; and grandson, Cody Ohlde. A memorial fund has been established to St. John's Catholic Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Hanover Mortuary, Hanover.
