Violet “Vi” Grauer, 93, died Thursday, October 16, 2008, at Cambridge Place in Marysville, Kansas. A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 20, at the Lighthouse Community Church in Downs, Kansas. The Rev. George Henry and Rev. Darrell Geist officiated. Geraldine Yost played the organ and Rev. Darrell Geist was the soloist. Music included "To God Be The Glory", "Haven of Rest" and "Take My Hand Precious Lord". Pallbearers were her eleven grandsons, Greg Parker, Doug Parker, Kurt Parker, Brad Parker, Kyle Krotzinger, Kris Krotzinger, Mike Whitebread, Randy Wilson, David Carl, Barry Carl and Merle Grauer. Burial was in the Downs Cemetery. Vi was born July 10, 1915, near Marysville, Kansas, the daughter of Frank and Bertha (Kloxin) Graham. In 1935 she married Merle Grauer at Washington, KS. Together they farmed southeast of Marysville for 23 years before running Frank’s Steak House in Marysville. They later moved to Downs, Kansas where they operated Merle’s Café for several years. Vi was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, whose smile and warmth will be missed by all who knew her. She loved quilting and cooking but her passion in life was her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merle; one daughter, Shirley; two great-grandsons, Josh and Heath; and one brother, Willis Graham. Survivors include four daughters, Janice Parker of Frisco, TX, Marilyn “Dee” Krotzinger and husband Francis of Superior, NE, Nancy Whitebread and husband Darel of Marysville, KS, Sherry Munce and husband Jim of North Platte, NE; one son, Jeff Grauer and wife Connie of Delphos, KS; twenty-three grandchildren; forty-eight great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
