Roger Dean Seematter, 53, of Marysville, KS, lost a courageous 19 month battle with ALS on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at his home. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 17, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville. Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated. Tributes were given by Jacob Seematter and Josh Seematter. The organist was Sterling Clark and the vocalists were Wayne Kruse and Jenna Seematter. Music included “Be Not Afraid”, “How Great Thou Art” and “You Are Mine”. The honorary pallbearers were Mark Heck, Duane Iles, Mike Pacha, Clay Pralle, Ron Grauer, Ron Milner, Mike Dettke, Mark Fisher, Mike Taphorn, Kirk Bradford, Randy Wecker, Jared Luedders, Donnie Kirkham, Gary Crabtree and Johnnie Rothlisberger. Burial was in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery. Roger was born on October 13, 1961 , the son of Carol (Bergen) Hague and Delmar E. Seematter. In May of 1979, he graduated from Marysville High School, where he excelled in football and wrestling. On November 8, 1997, he married his high school sweetheart, Colleen (Hogan), the love of his life and best friend. They just celebrated their 18 year anniversary. Throughout his life, he was a well-rounded guy who enjoyed reading, listening to music, farming, hunting, and watching movies and baseball. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Elk Foundation. He avidly hunted and made trips to New Mexico, Wyoming, and Colorado, hunting deer and elk. He loved being in nature and relished the great outdoors. A lifelong farmer and stockman, he enjoyed each season, from planting to harvest, calving to helping at the sale barn on Thursdays. Beyond these aspects of his life, he had a passion for running and completed 37 marathons, three 50K races and numerous 5K and 10K runs. In July of 2014, he was honored by having a race named after him. The Roger Seematter 10K Barnyard Boogie, due in part to the fact that he is the only person to compete in all 24 races. Major League Baseball, especially the Kansas City Royals, held a spot in his heart. He cheered for the boys in blue as they journeyed to the World Series this year. His infectious smile, wonderful laugh, and positive attitude about life will be missed by everyone. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Juanita Hogan, and his stepfather-in-law, Ronald Hague. Survivors include his wife Colleen; mother, Carol Hague, Topeka; father, Delmar E. Seematter, Marysville; brother, Delmar R. Seematter, Blue Rapids; sister-in-law, Jane Seematter, Marysville; brother and sister-in-laws, Doug and Cathy Hogan, Minneapolis, KS, Randy Hogan, Blue Rapids, and Diane and Richard Lister, Blue Rapids; nephews and nieces include Joshua (Stephanie) Seematter, Johnstown, CO, Jacob (Danielle) Seematter, Ashland, NE, Jenna Seematter, Topeka, Luke (Candace) Lister, Concordia, KS, Nicole (Josh) Stoudt, Blue Rapids, Derek Whitesell, Salina, KS, and Delaina List, Salina; several great nieces and nephews, cousins, classmates, and friends. A memorial fund has been established in his name and will be designated later by the family. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
