Milford W. Drinkgern, 85, of Marysville, KS, died Monday, November 17, 2014 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. Visitation was Thursday, November 20 from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, November 21 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville. Rev. Rodney Fritz officiated. Carol Wright played the organ while the congregation sang “What a Friend We Have In Jesus”, “Lift High the Cross”and “Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me”. The choir sang “Abide With Me”. The pallbearers were Lennis Holle, Arlan Holle, Ralph Plegge, Larry Preuss, Robert Gleue, Donnie Butler, Warren Drinkgern and Tim Ackerman. The honorary pallbearers were Mert Keller, Martha Clark, Gene Helms, Larry Hughes, Harold Travelute, Earl Underwood, Wilmer Bargmann and Harold Bargmann. Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Bremen. Milford was born at Bremen on March 21, 1929 to Fred and Ella (Rettig) Drinkgern. He served with the Army National Guard from 1949 thru 1958 and was a member of the American Legion in Marysville. He owned United Insurance Service with his wife and was an insurance agent, insurance adjuster and a rancher. He raised horned Herefords and liked sky diving and bungee jumping in his spare time. Milford served on the Washington Rural Water Board and Community Memorial Hospital Board. On September 16, 1960, he was united in marriage to Verda Kos at Salina. She survives. Other survivors include his son, Scott (Sandy) Drinkgern, Bremen; daughter, Brenda (Steve) Albin, Lincoln, NE; grandson, Ryan (Donna) Drinkgern; step grandchildren, Julie (Gene) Doebele, Hanover, Jenny (Cody) Sump, Randolph, Joni (Dean) Koch, Axtell, and Jana (Brandon) Gorr, Oregon; and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Fisher Drinkgern; and a sister, Elaine Wecker. A memorial fund has been established in his name and will be designated by the family at a later time. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
