Norman D. Burkhead, 74, of Marysville, KS, died Friday, November 28, 2014 at his home. Visitation was Monday, December 1, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. The family received friends from 6 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 2 at the First Christian Church in Marysville. The Rev. Jerry Zanker will officiate. Jane Sedlacek will play and sing “The Lord’s Prayer”, “How Great Thou Art”, “Amazing Grace” and “Jesus Loves Me”. The pallbearers will be Joe Germer, Biff Ratliff, Ron Jacques, Steve Ferrell, Dan Reynolds, Casey Koehler, Bob Thompson and Vince O’Toole, Jr. Burial will be in the Marysville City Cemetery. Norman was born January 14, 1940 at Concordia, KS, to Dwight and Lucile (Thompson) Burkhead. In 1958, he graduated from Marysville High School and then attended Kansas University. He worked as a Conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad for over 30 years before retiring in 2002. Norman enjoyed going to the lake and camping and boating. He also enjoyed traveling and always was able to strike up a conversation with people. His family was very important to him. On December 31, 1986 he was united in marriage to Jane Ensley at Marysville. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Kevin Burkhead, Meridian, ID, David (Chris) Hartsook, Waterville, KS, Keith (Lisa) Hartsook, Herkimer, KS, and Micheal Bonewitz, Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Scott, Chris and Ryan Burkhead, Meridian, ID, Jessica Tryon, Marysville, Amber Hartsook, Olathe, KS, and Mark Hartsook, Roeland Park, KS, Brianna and Riley Bonewitz, Kansas City, MO; great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Jace Burkhead, Meridian, ID, Tristan and Dylan Tryon, Marysville, and Treyton Hartsook, Olathe; brother, Harlan (Trish) Burkhead, Leawood, KS; and sister-in-law, Jean Clawson and her daughter, Deb, Frankfort, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial fund has been established to the First Christian Church or Meadowlark Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
