Edith Schmitz, 87, of Marysville, KS, died Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. Visitation was Tuesday, December 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 10, at St. Gregory's. Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated. Bob Welch played the organ while the church choir sang “Here I Am Lord”, “Amazing Grace”, “Precious Lord Take My Hand”, “You Are Mine” and “How Great Thou Art”. The pallbearers were Mike Scott, Jeff Scott, Jacob Felty, Jay Schmitz, Matt Schmitz and Cody Schmitz. Burial was in the church cemetery. She was born June 19, 1927 at Marysville to Clover and Anna (Fakler) Griffee. In 1945, she graduated from Marysville High School. She taught at three different one room country schools. She was a 4-H leader, member of the Busy Bees and a square dancer. Edith enjoyed family and family activities, playing cards and the K.C. Royals. She was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church and Altar Society. On May 8, 1948, she was united in marriage to A.J. “Sam” Schmitz. He preceded her in death January 24, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Leslie Griffee. Survivors include four sons, Ronald (Donna) Schmitz, Home, KS, Larry Schmitz, Eddie (Joni) Schmitz and Kenny Schmitz, all of Herkimer, KS; two daughters, Linda (Charles) Scott, Oketo, KS, and Laura Felty, Marysville; fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
