Arthur Argo, 98 of Vliets, Kansas, died Sunday, November 9, 2008 at his home near Vliets, Kansas. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at the Winifred Baptist Church. The Rev. John Coons officiated. Musicians were Linda Argo and Karen Salmon. The congregation sang “Till the Storm Passes By”, “No Never Alone” and “Because He Lives”. Pallbearers were Josh Argo, Dan Argo, Mike Argo, Terry Argo, Kenton Russell and Kevin Russell. Burial was in the Vermillion Cemetery. Arthur was born April 12, 1910, at Edna, Texas, the son of Thomas D. and Marie (Ekstrum) Argo. When Arthur was 7 years old, he moved with his family from Attica, Kansas to Marshall County by covered wagon. He graduated from the Oketo High School. On March 6, 1932, he married Helen Hubbard. Together they started their married life on a farm Northeast of Blue Rapids. In 1934 they moved to a farm near Winifred. Then in 1944 they moved to their present home in Lincoln Township. From 1969 until 1973, they worked at Shepherds Home & School in Union Grove, Wisconsin. Arthur was on the Vermillion School Board from 1947 until 1966. In the 1930’s he joined the Winifred Baptist Church and has since been a longtime member. Survivors include five sons, Donald Argo and wife Ella Mae of Marysville, Richard L. Argo and wife Jannett of Vermillion, Stephen E. Argo and wife Linda of Vermillion, Thomas L. Argo and wife Polly of South Lake Tahoe, NV, and David Argo of Tulsa, OK; two daughters, Jo Ann Russell and husband Dale of Centralia, KS, and Joyce Lowery of Newport, TN; twenty-seven grandchildren; forty-five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; one sister, Bessie Gillette; and two brothers, Marvin and Melvin Argo.
