Henry Carl Suther, 89, of Frankfort, Kansas, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Frankfort Community Care Home. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Fr. Pat Sullivan on January 2, 2015 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Frankfort. The Eucharistic ministers were his grandchildren Ryan Bauer, Sarah Ronnebaum and Andrea Harder. Gift bearers were his granddaughters Amy Eichler, Sarah Ronnebaum, Andrea Harder and Emily Bauer. The lector was his son-in-law George Bauer. Organist was Jeanie Gerstner and soloists were Rachel Ronnebaum and Lynn Bramhall. Hymns were “Be Not Afraid”,“Prayer of St. Francis”, “Here I Am Lord” and “Amazing Grace.” The Rosary was prayed at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at the Annunciation Catholic Church and visitation was 1 hour prior to the Rosary. Carrying Henry to his resting place in the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery were his grandsons, John Daniel Suther, Patrick Suther, Andy Ronnebaum, Adam Ronnebaum, Michael Fangman, Matthew Fangman, Ryan Bauer, Brad Bauer and Scott Bauer. Honorary Pallbearers were his friends Rudy Vopata, Ray Lierz, Norbert Bramlage, Terry Swanson and Phil Harrington. Full military honors were provided by Leo McMinimy Post #181 of the American Legion. Henry was born on January 23, 1925, in Dinklage, Germany, the son of Clemens and Anna Moser Suther. He came to the United States on Nov. 16, 1926 at the age of 22 months and spent his early life near Frankfort. His schooling was a one room school near Bigelow, Kansas through the 8th grade. During World War II, Henry entered the United States Army on July 11, 1944 serving as a combat infantryman. On April 4, 1945, he was wounded in the Philippine Island. After recovering from his injuries he became a postal clerk for the U.S. Army. He was decorated with many medals including the Purple Heart. He was discharged on August 17, 1946. After his service, Mr. Suther returned to Kansas and farmed his entire life west of Frankfort raising cattle, milo, wheat & corn. After his retirement, he enjoyed daily coffee and fellowship at the Corner Stop and driving around town and by his old house and farms. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council #1383 for almost 72 years, Memorial Post #1359 of the VFW and the Leo McMinimy Post #181 of the American Legion, all in Frankfort. On April 27, 1949, he married Emma Ford at Annunciation Catholic Church in Frankfort. The couple celebrated 63 years of marriage before Emma’s death on September 27, 2012. To this union were born six children. He was preceded in death by a son (Jerry) in infancy, his parents, two sisters, Alvina Laytham and Mary Brinker, and three brothers, Frank, Walter and Albert. Henry was survived by one son John (Karen) of Topeka; four daughters JoAnn (Larry) Ronnebaum of Axtell, Janet Johnson of Frankfort, Judy (Greg) Fangman of Seneca and Joyce (George) Bauer of Hiawatha, a sister Clara Erdman of Topeka; 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren he dearly loved. Memorial contributions may be made to the Annunciation Catholic Church or to the Frankfort Ambulance Service and can be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel in Frankfort
