Frances Ackerman, 86, Ovieda, FL, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Central Regional, Sanford, FL. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, January 9 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Marysville. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 10 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Father Jim Shaughnessy will officiate. Rosemary Forst will play the organ while the church choir sings “Here I Am Lord”, “Prayer of St. Francis”, “On Eagles Wings”, “You Are Mine” and “How Great Thou Art”. Burial will be in the Marysville City Cemetery. Frances Cavanaugh was born on July 15, 1928 to Frank and Kathryn (Flynn) Cavanaugh at New York, NY. Frances graduated from Cathedral High School in New York followed by Art School in New York. On July 4, 1954, she married Leon D. Ackerman at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, New York. After marriage they moved to Washington, KS, and opened an electronics store. In 1960, they moved to Denver, CO, where Frances managed various retail stores including Russell Stover Candy and a hospital gift shop. Frances always wanted to help people find what they needed. They moved to Florida where Leon worked for Martin Marietta as a quality control engineer. After retirement they loved traveling and managed to visit many places in the U.S. and abroad. Frances was a devout Catholic and attended mass weekly even on vacation. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Northglenn, CO, and Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in Oviedo, FL. She loved reading and spending time with family, especially time spent with grandchildren and great grandchildren. They spent many holidays together with family. Even after their children moved away they would travel to visit them. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sons, Richard and Michael Ackerman; and sister, Kathryn. Survivors include sons, Steve (Della) Ackerman, Alexandria, VA, Dennis (Eleni) Ackerman, Austin, TX, Jerry (Nancy) Ackerman, Aviedo, FL; and twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated by the family. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville.
