Maurice "Max" Stowell, 84, of Marysville, KS, died Friday, January 16, 2015 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. Visitation was Tuesday, January 20, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 21, at Kinsley Mortuary. Robert Boyle officiated. Jane Sedlacek played the organ and sang “Old Rugged Cross”. Recorded music included “The Auctioneers Song”. The pallbearers were Justin Elston, Kent Stowell, Jason Williams, Jay Schneider, Phillip Schneider and Jason Schneider. The honorary pallbearers were Richard Estes, Ed Berry, Keith Berry, Clayton Berry and Bryan Bolton. Burial with Military Honors provided by the Marysville American Legion was in the Vermillion Cemetery. Max was born on February 22, 1930, on a farm near Vermillion, KS, son of Delbert and Hazel (Bishop) Stowell. In 1948, he graduated from Vermillion High School. On August 28, 1955, he was united in marriage to Virginia (Ginny) Berry at Fostoria, KS. This marriage was blessed with two daughters, Brenda and Tanya. Max had a very interesting life. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He owned Stowell Trailer Sales in Manhattan, KS, until retirement. He was an auctioneer and a rodeo announcer in several states for 30 years. In the 1970’s he owned and managed the Manhattan Raiders semi-pro football and basketball teams. Max had a love of people and didn’t know a stranger. He also loved buying and selling Ford tractors, which he did for many years. Survivors include his wife, Ginny Stowell, Marysville; two daughters, Brenda (Jay) Schneider, Beattie, KS, and Tanya Faiola (Jim Culp), Manhattan, KS; five grandchildren, Bryan Bolton, Erin Williams, Phillip Schneider, Jason Schneider and Tarah Elston; five great-grandchildren, Aiden Elston, Oliver Williams, Emery Schneider, June Schneider and Scarlet Schneider; sister, Marlene (Melvin) Gustin, Marysville; brother, Kent (Jane) Stowell, Vliets, KS; brother-in-laws, John Bramhall and Don Gaston; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Twyla Gaston and Maxine Bramhall. Memorial contributions may be made to the D.A.V. and can be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
