Laura O. Baker, 92, of Marysville, Kansas, died Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. Visitation was Tuesday, January 20, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family received friends from 6 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Marysville. Gary Phillips officiated. Deb Landoll played the organ while the congregation sang “I Was There” and “In the Garden”. The pallbearers were Jim Phillips, Bob Larkin, John Phillips, David Tangeman, Tony Carrow, Norris Slupianek, Warren Slupianek and Todd Segerhammar. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Laura was born on August 31, 1922 at Home, KS, the daughter of Ralph and Freda (Blocker) Tangeman. In 1940, she graduated from Marysville High School. On May 18, 1941, she married Ordway Phillips at Marysville. He preceded her in death on November 29, 1951. On December 30, 1954, she was united in marriage to Wayne Baker at Tucumcari, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on February 5, 1996. Laura worked with her husband, Wayne, at the Baker Motor Company as the bookkeeper until they sold the business. She then worked at the FHA Farmers Home Administration for several years. She was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ, Eastern Star, and was the Mother Advisor of the Rainbow Girls. Laura enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, cross-stitching needle work, dancing and traveling. Survivors include her two sons, Lonnie (Carol) Phillips and Gary (Sharon) Phillips, both of Marysville; daughter, Sharon (Carl) Segerhammar, Courtland, KS; six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Lange, Marysville, and Patricia (Larry) Lemon, Topeka, KS; and a sister-in-law, Eleanor McMindes, Hays, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ordway Phillips and Wayne Baker; two grandsons, Jay Phillips on November 29, 1994 and Kyle Segerhammar on April 1, 1997; sister, Marcia Slupianek; and a brother, Jack Tangeman. Memorial contributions may be made to the church and can be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville.
