Robert Lee Dixon, Sr.

Robert Dixon, Sr., 59, of Blue Rapids, KS, passed away at Webster City, Iowa. A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at the American Legion Post #163 in Marysville. The Rev. Jerry Zanker officiated. Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren, Kyle Dixon, Zachary Dixon, LeAira Dixon, Kayla Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Hailey Jones, Lucas Jones and Jeremy Reed. Robert was born January 15, 1949, at Marysville, Kansas, the son of Melvin Dixon and Nadine (Pageler) Habel. He attended the Swede Creek country school and graduated from Blue Valley High School in 1967. He then attended Beloit Technical College at Beloit, KS. He married Charlotte Snodgrass in 1968. Together they had two children, Robert Lee, Jr., and Theresa Lynn. They divorced in 1975. In 1988 he married Myra Hasenkamp. They had two children, Chantelle and Edward. After college he moved to Marysville and worked for Bergren Motors. He owned and operated his own mechanic shop in Blue Rapids from 1995 until 2000 when he began working for the Union Pacific Railroad. Robert will be buried in Bellegarde Cemetery, south of Blue Rapids, KS. The cemetery is just down the road from the farm he grew up on. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Dixon; stepfather, John Habel; and one brother, Jerry Dixon. Survivors include his wife, Myra Dixon of Blue Rapids; mother, Nadine Habel of Marysville; four children, Robert Dixon, Jr., and wife Alicia of DeLand, FL, Theresa Johnson and husband Mike of MO, Chantelle Jones and husband William of Blue Rapids, and Edward Dixon of Blue Rapids; one brother, Carl Dixon and wife Mary Ann of Blue Rapids; two sisters, Sue Raseta and husband David of Marysville, and Barb Wassenberg and husband Steve of Marysville; and seven grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
