Rosemary Wassenberg Brungardt, 88, formerly of the Marysville area, died Thursday, December 11, 2008, at the Belle Terrace Nursing Home in Tecumseh, Nebraska. A funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2008, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville. The Rev. Anthony Putti officiated. Laura O’Neil played the organ. The music selection included “Song of Farewell”, “Here I Am Lord”, “Prayer of St. Francis” and “How Great Thou Art”. Pallbearers were Mike Shaughnessy, Pat Shaughnessy, Dan Shaughnessy, Sam Hillman, John Hillman and Jim Wassenberg. A rosary service was at 4 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rosemary Brungardt was born January 21, 1920, at Marysville, to Ben and Mary Voet Wassenberg. She graduated from Marysville High School. She married Daniel Brungardt on July 6, 1942, at Marysville. She was a registered nurse who graduated in 1941 from the St. Joseph School of Nursing, Concordia. She worked at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Hays; Randall Hospital, Marysville; and at Mercy Hospital, Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was a member of the altar society. She enjoyed hiking and crocheting. Survivors include her daughter, Ann Shaughnessy, Dallas, and Janette Brungardt, Tecumseh, Neb.; brothers, Wilfred “Pete” and Gene, Marysville, and Maurice “Fearless,” Fort Scott; sisters, Dorthea “Pat” Wassenberg, Minneapolis, Minn., and Rita VanGaasbeek, Albuquerque; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Louis “Bud,” Bernard and an infant, Gregory. A memorial will be designated later by the family and contributions may be sent in care of the mortuary.
