Nelda June Ungerer

Nelda Ungerer, 82, of Marysville, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2008, at Topeka, Kansas. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville. The Rev. Donnie Hofman officiated. Carol Wright played the organ while Bill Raymond sang "How Great Thou Art" and the congregation sang "Abide With Me" and "On Eagles Wings". Pallbearers were David McKenney, Ryan Aeschliman, Jeremiah Ungerer, Jameson Ungerer, Mark Ungerer, Jordan Ungerer, James Ungerer and Jared Ungerer. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Visitation was Wednesday, December 17, from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family received friends between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Nelda was born June 8, 1926 at Marysville, the daughter of Herman F. and Mary L. (Ewert) Bargmann. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1945. On December 14, 1947, she was united in marriage to James Ungerer. Together, they owned and operated J&N Office Supply in Marysville from 1958 until retiring in 1982. She enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Nelda was a member of the American Legion, VFW Auxiliary, active for 60 years in Laureate Gamma Beta Sigma Phi, Pony Express volunteer board member, supervisory election judge, Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Merry Widows Club, RSVP volunteer, and a Euchre Club member. Nelda was also known for her elephant figure collection. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James on October 27, 1987; two brothers, Alvin and Roland; and two sisters, Viola "Blondie" Breeding and infant Erna Bargmann. Survivors include her special friend, George Eichelberger; one daughter, Marna Raymond and husband Bill of Bellevue, NE; three sons, James Ungerer of Louisburg, KS, Jeff Ungerer and wife Mary of Topeka, KS, and Jon Ungerer and wife Kathy of Manhattan, KS; one brother, Leonard Bargmann, of Topeka, KS; two sisters, Donna Graham of Beatrice, NE, and Darlene Gillilan of Glendora, CA; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A memorial fund has been established in her name. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
