Wilma Mason, 95, of Beattie, KS, died Friday, March 27, 2015 at the Crestview Nursing Home in Seneca, KS, on what would have been her 75th wedding anniversary. Visitation is Monday, March 30, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home in Axtell. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Beattie. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 31, at St. Malachy's Catholic Church. Father Jim Shaughnessy will officiate. Jane Sedlacek will play the organ while Kelsey Goodwin leads the congregation singing “Be Not Afraid”, “Gift of Finest Wheat”, “On Eagles Wings”, “Song of Farewell” and “How Great Thou Art”. The pallbearers will be Tom Schmitz, David Schmitz, Doug Schmitz, Andy Schmitz, Dan Schmitz and Bobby Brown. The honorary pallbearers will be Tim Mason, Jeff Mason, Adam Koch, Jeremy Koch, Katie Mason and Jordan Schmitz. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Beattie. Wilma was born December 30, 1919 at Beattie, to Joseph and Vida Enola (Gold Hattan) Schneider. She graduated from Beattie High School. She married Kenneth W. Mason in Beattie. Besides being a housewife and mother, Wilma cooked at the high school in Beattie. Later she worked for 16 years at the Marysville Community Memorial Hospital. She was a life-long member of St. Malachy's Catholic Church and Guild. Wilma enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, fishing and playing cards. She was always there to lend a helping hand. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Kenneth; daughter, Helen Marie Mason; brothers, Rex, Pat, Maurice and Richard; and sisters, Helen, Mary and Shirley. Survivors include her sons, Wilbur J. Mason (Gerry), Amarillo, TX, Jerry Mason (Susan), Abilene, KS; daughters, Judy Mason Brown (Robert), Portsmouth, VA, Virginia Mason Schmitz (Julian), Axtell; brother, Bernard Schneider, Beattie; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
