Sylvester W. Ham, 102, of rural Marysville, KS, died April 3, 2015 at the Blue Valley Nursing Home in Blue Rapids, KS. Visitation was Monday, April 6 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 7, at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Marysville. Burial was in the Marysville Cemetery. Sylvester was born May 24, 1912 near Marysville, son of Clarence and Rose Thiesen Ham. On March 4, 1933 he married Katie Barlow at Marysville. Sylvester farmed near Marysville most of his life. He liked to raise water and musk melons in his garden and enjoyed dancing, camping and fishing. He played the fiddle in a band at Schroyer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katie, in 2000; and a brother, Kenneth. He is survived by daughters Linda (Ed) Copeland, Riley, KS, and Sharon Wacker, Lincoln, NE; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Isla Shortt, Manhattan, KS.
