Walter H. Schwarz, age 93, of Marysville, Kansas, died Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. Visitation was Monday, April 20, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 21, at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Marysville. Rev. Marilyn Sweet officiated. The musicians were Carol O’Neal and Pat Breeding. Music included “New York, New York”, “I Give You Jesus”, “Lord’s Prayer” and “Let There Be Peace on Earth”. The pallbearers were Wayne Link, John Robinson, Lee Mattingly, Willie Armstrong, Steve O’Neal and Mickey McIntyre. Burial with military honors was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Walter was born on April 17, 1921 at Marysville the son of Ernest and Betty Schwarz. He graduated from Marysville High School and Stricklers Business School of Topeka. He entered the Army in 1942 during World War II, was stationed in England and France, served in the Quartermaster Corps and was an Interpreter and then was honorably discharged in 1946. He was united in marriage to Harriet Smith in a home ceremony at Oketo, on January 25, 1942. She preceded him in death in 1982. Also preceding him were his parents; daughter, Beverly Anne Wilkin in 2005; and sisters. During his life span, Walter worked at the Safeway grocery, Boogaarts, Baker’s Garage, for the U.S. Soil Conservation, McGrades Radio Plant and as a clerk with the U.S. Postal service. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and served in all offices. Walter loved hosting parties, playing bridge games, and entertaining people at his yellow house on the golf course. Walter was a member of Hilda Chapter, Marysville Masonic Lodge, Marysville Council, Arab Temple, American Legion #163 and VFW 2699. He was a honorary member of Aloha Temple, Oahu Hawaii and a twelve gallon blood donor. One of his biggest joys was dressing up on Black Squirrel Night and Halloween. He had dances at the American Legion for the Handicapped, knowing that they felt pain and wanted to be wanted and loved. Walter said he had a good life, knowing lots of first class people. He is survived by a granddaughter, Kim Wilkin, Austin, TX; and son-in-law, Larry Wilkin, Tuscaloosa, AL. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date.
