Catherine Marie Gerardy, 98, of Hanover, passed away on May 15, 2015 at the Hanover Hospital. A rosary service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 23 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hanover. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Father David Metz will officiate. Janet Fritschi will play the organ while the church choir sings “Amazing Grace”, “How Great Thou Art”, “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman”, and “Here I Am Lord”. The pallbearers will be Jim Truesdell, Tyler Truesdell, Keaton Truesdell, Bill Millis, Andrew Millis, and Ian Parish. Burial will be at the Hanover Cemetery. She was born December 9, 1916 at Hanover to George and Ella (Powers) Gerardy. She was the youngest of five children and only daughter. Catherine attended catholic school in Hanover and graduated high school in 1935. In 1938, she graduated first in her class at Emporia State Teacher’s College. Early in her teaching career she taught in and near Hanover before moving to Denver in the early 1940’s to teach for Denver Public Schools. She attended Denver University for her post graduate work in education and received her Principal’s certification while teaching. She retired from D.P.S. as Principal of Brown Elementary School in Denver. “Aunt Kate”, as she was affectionately known, was very dedicated to family and her catholic faith. She enjoyed playing the piano and reading. She will also be remembered for her generosity to numerous charities throughout her life. She is preceded in death by her brothers, John, George, Chester “Kelly”, and James Gerardy; as well as her niece, Jean Gerardy Truesdell. Survivors include her nephew in-law, F. Barry Truesdell; four great nieces; a great nephew; as well as thirteen great-great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to in honor of Catherine Gerardy.
