Fern Adele Weyer, 94, of Baileyville, KS, died June 16, 2015 at her home. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 26 at Salem Lutheran Church southwest of Axtell, KS. Burial was in the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery. Fern was born December 13, 1920 to Clyde and Laura (McCaig) Yarger at rural Centralia, KS. She graduated Valedictorian from Centralia High School in 1938. Fern went on to normal training school and became a teacher. She taught from 1940-1941 at Hog Corner one room school ner Vermillion and later taught at Berwick School near Sabetha. Fern married Lawrence Weyer on June 4, 1944 at the Salem Lutheran church. They enjoyed over 50 years together. They were blessed with four children. Fern enjoyed many passions, but family and faith were always first. She also enjoyed gardening, and all the fruits of harvest. She still enjoyed reciting poetry learned from her school days. Survivors are sons, Larry Weyer, Woodbridge VA, Paul Weyer, Baileyville; daughters, Marie Woods, Emporia, Karen Beagle, Topeka,; sisters, Erma Gandy, Kansas City, Audrey Chestnut and Mildred Chatham, both of Topeka; and 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Fern was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, who died in 1996; brother, Earl Yarger; and sisters, Wilma Boeding, Hazel Hoffman and Leota Matthews. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. Contributions may be sent in care of Axtell Landreth Funeral Home, Axtell.
