Robert G. Connell, 89, Georgetown, TX, formerly of Marysville, died August 10, 2015 while on a golf trip in Ruidoso, NM. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, August 18, at the United Methodist Church, Marysville. Burial was private. Robert was born in Junction City, Kansas, June 7, 1926 to Rex and Jesse Connell. Robert worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. He began as a switchman in Junction City and then transferred to Marysville where he was a brakeman and yardmaster. In 1990 he retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 42 years of service. An avid golfer most of his life; he was also known for his woodworking and cabinet-making skills. He and Thelma Vineyard married in 1989 and were active in the Marysville community until their relocation to Texas in 1998. Survivors include his wife Thelma; his son, Robert Steven Connell, and wife (Janet) of Marysville and their two children, Andy (Onaga, KS) and Jodi (Omaha, NE); two daughters, Susan Connell Graham and husband (Keith) of Sebastian, Florida, and Ginny Connell Beene and husband (Steve) and their three children, Emily, Andrea, and Brett Beene of Olathe, Kansas; and his sister, Mary Connell Anderson, of Junction City, Kansas. He is also survived by Thelma’s children: Karen Vineyard Dummermuth, Steve Vineyard, and Jim Vineyard of Lawrence, Kansas; Karen’s children, David, Derek, and Anthony Dummermuth; Steve’s children, Jamie Vineyard Rathbun, and Curtis Vineyard; Jim’s children, Joshua and Daniel Vineyard; and their families, including 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Joan (Jody) Snyder Connell, his parents Rex and Jesse Connell, a sister, Francis Connell McGuire, and a brother, Joel Connell. A memorial has been established in his name to the United Methodist Church at 1500 North Street in Marysville.
