James Joseph Buck, 61, passed away Friday, February 20, 2009 in Oshkosh, WI, following a 3 ½ year battle with cancer. He was formerly of Hanover, KS. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 24, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hanover. Father James Hoover and Sister Marilyn Wall officiated. Janet Fritschi played the organ and the church choir sang. Pall Bearers were Steve Prell, Eric Buck, Dale Buck, Tom Fucaloro, Tim Becker, and David Lickteig. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Hanover American Legion Post #306 provided a military graveside service. A memorial service will be held March 4, 2009 in Oshkosh, WI at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church at 6:00 p.m. Jim was born June 16, 1947 in Marysville, Kansas to Harold and Margaret (Hogan) Buck. He was raised in Hanover, Kansas and attended St. John’s Catholic Elementary School and Hanover High School where he graduated in 1965. He served in Vietnam in the 25th Army Infantry from 1966 to 1967. Jim received two Purple Hearts during his time of service. On Aug. 9, 1969 he was united in marriage to Margaret Schofield in Denver, CO. She and a son, Michael Buck, preceded him in death on May 15, 2000. On July 13, 2002 he married Sally Smith in Hanover, KS. She survives. Jim was involved in his community. He was an active member of the American Legion, the Knights Of Columbus, the DAV, the VFW, and the Order of the Purple Heart. Upon moving to Oshkosh, he volunteered as a docent for the EAA. In addition to his wife and son, he was preceded in death by his parents. Jim is survived by his wife Sally of the home; children: James and wife Stacey of Silver Dale, WA, Mary Schroller and husband Doug, Scott, and Daniel all of Hanover, and Jennifer Schotte and husband William of Odell; two step-sons: Dale Smith of North Fond du Lac, WI, and Brian Smith of Oshkosh, WI; three brothers: Howard and Ann of Edmond, OK, Mike and Joanne of South Lyons, MI, and Ray and Barbara of Hanover, KS; a sister: Virginia Prell of Marysville, KS; and eight grand-children.
