Roy J. Seematter, 88, of Frankfort, KS, passed away Monday, March 16, 2009 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 20, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Frankfort. A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 19 at the church. Burial was in the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Frankfort. Roy was born on February 8, 1921 at Marysville, KS, the son of Ernest and Ida (Ring) Seematter. On April 19, 1944 he married Rachel Roeder at Frankfort. They enjoyed over 64 years of marriage, family and many activities together. To this union six children were born. In 1941, Roy went to San Diego, CA and worked for Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corp. In 1944 he left this job to go to the Army Air Corp and was assigned to the 8th Air Force 100th bomb group as a ball turret gunner. He was stationed at Thorpe Abbots airbase near Norwich, England and flew missions over Germany and food drops over Holland. After returning home, he was a farmer and stockman, which he enjoyed till his final day. Roy was a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church, American Legion, VFW and Forty & Eight. Survivors include his wife, Rachel of the home; six children, Patricia and husband Dennis Wanklyn, Jane and husband Bob Kenworthy, Dean and wife Carolyn Seematter, twins, Elma and husband Wayne Mitchell and Ellen and husband Robert Koch, Dale and wife Janet Seematter, all of Frankfort (couldn’t leave home!!); one sister, Ida Mae Francis of Topeka; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Seematter of Beattie; eighteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; baby sister, Erma; two brothers, Arthur and Carl Seematter; three sisters Ethel Miller, Alice Lang and Verla Krogman. One of his life long dreams was fulfilled when a large cross was erected on the hill south of Frankfort on November 2, 2008. Memorial contributions will go towards the lighting of this cross.
