Lillie Sadie Harries, 86, of rural Herkimer, went to be with her Lord on April 12th, at Cambridge Place in Marysville where she spent her last several years. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 17, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church north-east of Bremen. The Rev. Jack Kirk will officiate. Mark Harries played the organ while the congregation sings "I Know That My Redeemer Lives", "Now Thank We All Our God", "O Blest the House", "Jerusalem My Happy Home" and "For All the Saints". The pallbearers were grandsons, Craig Harries, Gregory Harries, Colby Harries, Brian Harries, Joel Harries and James Gutierrez. Burial was in the church cemetery. Lillie was born October 10, 1922, near Bremen, KS, the daughter of Henry and Klara Luedders. On January 1, 1945 she married William Harries. During their 52 years together they raised nine children and operated a dairy farm. Lillie was a lifetime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir, a member of the Dorcas Society and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She served beside her husband for the International Lutheran Laymen’s League and was involved in her children’s education at Bethlehem Lutheran School. Her Christian service also included making religious materials with the Lutheran Braille Workers. Her service to her family led her to receive a “Master Homemakers” Award in the state of Kansas. She was a member of the Crestview EHU. Lillie spent many years as a leader in the Happy Horseshoe 4-H club enjoying hours working with the young children. Lillie and her husband, Bill, served on the German Festival Committee and were crowned the German Festival King and Queen in Marysville. They also helped with the annual German Fest Dinner at Bethlehem Lutheran. Lillie also enjoyed gardening and cultivating flowers. Her greatest joy in life was raising her children and the extended family of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that were always around her table. She and her husband loved to travel and had friends all over the country. Lillie had a peaceful and calm presence and her family and friends enjoyed her humor and gentle spirit. Survivors include five sons, Bill and wife Deanne of Bremen, KS, Dan and wife Dawn of Grand Island, NE, John and wife Janice of Las Vegas, NV, Tom and wife Diane of Lenexa, KS, and Steve and wife Dee of Marysville, KS; four daughters, Cynthia Harries of Independence, MO, Mary Davis and husband Mike of Huntersville, NC, Dorothy Harries of Denver, CO, Rebecca Gutierrez and husband Phil of Topeka, KS; nineteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Esther Tiedje of Omaha, NE; three brothers, Arnold Luedders of Peoria, IL, Elmer Luedders of Beatrice, NE, and Wilmer Luedders of Spokane, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Harries; one sister, Selma Osborn; and one brother, Virgil Luedders. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, The Lutheran Hour and Meadowlark Hospice and sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
