Rita E. Goodwin, 88, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca, KS. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home in Axtell, KS. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, January 20, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Summerfield. The family received friends at the church starting at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Father Albert Hauser officiated. Sherryl Burger play the organ while Kelsey Goodwin sang “You Are Mine”, “Amazing Grace”, “On Eagles Wings”, “Go in Peace”, and “How Great Thou Art”. The pallbearers were David Riepenkroger, Scott Mett, Robert Goodwin, Jr., Francis Goodwin, Noah Goodwin, and Preston Gronemeyer. Burial was in the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery. Rita was born on June 4, 1927 in Seneca. Rita attended school in Baileyville, KS, and graduated from Baileyville High School in 1946.  On June 23, 1949, she married Buddy Lee Goodwin at Holy Family Catholic Church in Summerfield, KS.  They have been married for 66 years.  During their marriage they had three children. She attended and graduated from Manhattan Vo-Tech in 1972 as a License Practical Nurse. Following graduation she worked at Marshall County Infirmary in Marysville, KS, until she retired.  Rita enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, sewing, and gardening.  She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents. Survivors include husband, Buddy Lee Goodwin, Axtell; children, Charles (Marlene) Goodwin, Summerfield, Mary (Jerry) Riepenkroger, Marysville, and Robert (Lanna) Goodwin, Beattie, KS; 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 soon to be great-great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later by the family. Contributions may be sent in care of Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home, Axtell, KS.
