John Clayton Herman, 85, died Friday, February 5, 2016 at the Community Memorial Healthcare, Marysville. Visitation will be Monday, February 8, 2016 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. A graveside funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, February 9 at Oak Creek Cemetery, Lebanon, KS. John was born at Bel Aire, KS on September 6, 1930 to Ezra and Lora (Harsh) Herman. He graduated from Smith Center High School in 1948. John served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. In 1957, he earned his Bachelor Degree from, Kansas State University and in 1961, his Master’s Degree from the University of Arkansas. He worked as an Agriculture Journalist at Iowa State University. On August 28, 1955, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Kattenberg at the Oak Creek Christian Church in Lebanon, KS. She preceded him in death. He moved to Marysville in 2000. On September 6, 2002, he married Sophia deOliveria at Branson, MO. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Marilyn; and brother, Bernard Herman. Survivors include his wife, Sophia, Marysville; daughter, Lisa Miles, Omaha, AR; sister, Eunice Baetz, Smith Center; and brother, Maynard Herman, Las Vegas, NV. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent to Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville, KS.
