Marie K. (Arlint) Pretz, 95, of Vermillion, KS, passed away April 28, 2009 at the Onaga Community Hospital with family at her side. A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, May 03, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lillis, KS. A mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 4, at the church. Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated. Millie Donahue played the organ. The music included “Amazing Grace”, “O Beautiful Mother”, “Here I Am Lord” and “How Great Thou Art”. The pallbearers were Sean Donahue, Therron Figge, Dustin Younger, Joshua Williams, Mark Broxterman, Eric Broxterman and Jerry Lee Younger. Burial was at 4:00 p.m., Monday, in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS, with services in the Chapel. Marie was born June 23, 1913, at the family homestead in Bigelow, KS, the only daughter of Charles Elbert (Bert) and Margaret (Budenbender) Arlint. She attended local schools and helped on the family farm and did domestic work before her marriage to Lawrence F. (Larry) Pretz on April 26, 1941, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Irving, KS. Their first home was in Kansas City, KS, where she worked for Rudy Patrick's Seed Company and helped her husband farm until her children were born. They purchased a farm north of Lillis, KS, in 1947, where they lived, farmed and raised their family. Her husband died in July 1982, and she continued to live on the farm for a total of 60 years until her home was destroyed by fire in January 2007. She has live with her daughters since that time. Marie was an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and Altar Society of Lillis. She loved to cook, bake and always had home made pies and cookies ready to share with her family, friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and visiting with friends. She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Marie is survived by two daughters, Peggy Broxterman and her husband Leighton of Topeka, and Betty Bonjour of Lillis; seven grandchildren, Jerry, Debra, Amy, Eric, Mark, Traci, and Jessica; and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; son, Leroy in 1966; parents; five brothers, Ira, Lawrence, Albert, Pat, and Charles Arlint; and an infant granddaughter. Memorials are suggested to the St. Joseph Altar Society and may be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel.
