Joyce E. Holenbeck

Joyce E. Holenbeck, 78 of Frankfort Kansas passed away March 16th at the Frankfort Community Care home. Visitation was Friday, March 18 from noon to 8 p.m. at Padden Funeral Chapel in Frankfort. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 19 at the First Presbyterian Church in Frankfort. Rev. Marilyn Sweet officiated. Jane Sedlacek was organist and the congregation sang, “Amazing Grace” and “Come to Jesus.” Pallbearers were Casey Donnelly, Brady Donnelly, Ben Hawkins, Kevin Hawkins, Mark Hawkins Audrie Gudenkauf and Mitch Gudenkauf. Burial was in the Frankfort Cemetery. Joyce was born on June 30, 1937 on a farm near Beattie, KS, to Louis and Ada (Ekstrum) Haley. She attended rural elementary schools and graduated from Vermillion High School in 1955. On September 4, 1955 she was united in marriage to Paul Holenbeck. They spent their entire married life in Frankfort, living at the same residence for close to 60 years. Joyce was in business with her husband for over 46 years, operating Paul’s Standard/Amoco Service Station and later Paul’s Service Center. Joyce enjoyed being with her friends at coffee group and being part of the Frankfort Red Hat Society. Other hobbies and activities she enjoyed, were fishing with Paul and attending their grandkids many school activities and ball games. Joyce and Paul’s most favorite time spent together was dining out and visiting with friends and relatives. Survivors include her daughters, Debbie (Pat) Donnelly of Wamego, KS, Rhonda (Dennis) Hawkins of Beattie, KS, and Brenda (Rick) Gudenkauf of Paola, KS; grandchildren, Casey (Jenny) Donnelly, Brady Donnelly, Ben (Amanda) Hawkins, Kevin Hawkins, Mark Hawkins, Audrie Gudenkauf, and Mitch Gudenkauf; great-grandson, Westin Donnelly; sisters, Larrene Diehl of Arvada CO, and Lilian Roberts of Amery, WI; and sister-in-law, Norma Haley of Topeka. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; parents; sisters, Grace Davis, Pearl Roesch, Ella Mae Schneider, and Margaret Ward; and brother, Robert Haley. The family suggest memorials to the Frankfort Ambulance or Frankfort Nutrition Site. Contributions may be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel, Frankfort.
