Ruth Alice Kaufman, 83, formerly of Home, KS, died March 19, 2016 in Oakland, CA. Visitation will be Friday, April 1, from noon to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 2 in the Home Cemetery, north of Home, KS. Ruth was born August 26, 1932 at Home, KS, to Paul and Augusta (Kubik) Kaufman. She attended school in Home and graduated from Marysville High School. She worked with the elderly most of her life. She started when she was very young working with her parents at the Marshall County Nursing Home. She worked there until joining the Navy in 1953. After leaving the service in the early 60's she returned to Kansas to work with the elderly. While in the Navy she met her lifelong friend and "adopted" sister, Juanita. IN the middle 80's Ruth went to California to visit Juanita and liked it so much she stayed. She continued to work with the elderly while there. Ruth was a hard worker, loved to walk and was a wonderful hugger. She walked a lot and made many friends during her treks. She said "I never knew a stranger". You knew you were a friend when she would tease you and give you the biggest hug. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Paul Hans Kaufman and Lloyd George Kaufman; and "adopted" brother, Nolan Pearson. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Kathryn Kaufman, Pleasant Dale, NE; two nephews, Paul Kaufman and Dirk Kaufman; cousins and many friends. Kinsley Mortuary is in charge of local arrangements.
