Kathleen A. Swanson, 48, of Beattie, KS, died from liver failure on Thursday, May 07, 2009 at KU Medical Center. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 11, at the Beattie United Methodist Church. Pastor Camille Sutton officiated. Jane Sedlacek played the organ while the congregation sang “Amazing Grace”, “On Eagles Wings” and "In the Garden”. The pallbearers were her seven nephews, Dustin Rutledge, Jacob Holle, David Byers, Brian Byers, Dan Byers, Ben Byers and Paul Byers; and two nieces, Anna Byers and Jordyn Holle. Burial was in the Beattie Union Cemetery. Kathleen was born July 19, 1960 at Marysville, KS, the daughter of Wayne Emmett and Marie (Smart) Byers. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1978. During school she worked at her parents store, Byers Grocery, in Beattie. She later worked at the Beattie Cafe, Sac & Fox Casino, Twin Valley Developement Services in Beattie and Little Hap's cafe in Home, KS. She was a baptized member of the Beattie United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, helping with the Beattie Milo Festival, shopping and collecting anything with Mickey Mouse. She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Emmett Byers; and nephew, Kevin Byers. Survivors include her husband, Don Swanson; one son, Lynn Swanson; mother, Marie Byers, all of Beattie; two brothers, Wayne Byers, Jr. and wife Patty of Seneca, KS, and David Byers and wife Kate of Beattie; two sisters, Susan Rutledge Alexander and husband Gary of Arlington, TX, and Mary Holle and husband Ryan of Manhattan, KS; seven nephews; and two nieces. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
