Jack L. Bergen, 79, of Waterville, KS, died Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysivlle. A funeral services was held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 11 at the First Christian Church in Marysville. The Rev. Jerry Zanker officiated. Evelyn Falen played the organ while Wayne Kruse sang “Beyond the Sunset”, “In the Garden” and “Always”. The pallbearers were Nik Lockhart, Jack Estes, Shane Larson, Bobby Hester, Frank Nietfeld, Shannon Gibson, Travis Roudybush and Andy Runnebaum. The honorary pallbearers were Dennis Kracht, Norbert Slupianek and Ed Huddleston. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Jack was born April 23, 1930 to Walter F. & Marion M. (Messick) Bergen on a farm outside of Marysville. He worked for Armour Packing Co. at Marysville, Union Pacific Railroad and retired from Motorola Communication Service Co. after 45 years. On January 14, 1951 he married Nora F. Blackburn. He was a member of all Masonic bodies serving as Master of Af&Am. He belonged to NeMar Shrine and Arab Temple serving 13 years as Worthy Patron of Eastern Star. He served as a Sunday School Superintendent Deaon and Elder Chairman of the Board of First Christian Church, and was also an Elder Emeritus. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1949 and attended Ottawa University one semester, transferring to Central Technical Institute in Kansas City, gaining a degree as a Communication Technician. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Nora; four daughters, Marsha Larson (Mike) of Waterville, Deb Runnebaum (Jim) of Axtell, Lori Runnebaum (Eugene) of Ogden, Jill Estes (Rex) of Marysville; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald Bergen (Betsy) of Topeka and Lynn Bergen (Roberta) of Durham, NC; two sisters, Carmen Ramsey (Forrest) of Bedford, VA, and Carol Hague of Topeka.
