James E. Zabokrtsky, 72, of Marysville, KS, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, KS. Visitation was Sunday, April 10 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. The family received friends from 4 to 6 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 11 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville. Rev. Don Dodds officiated. The pallbearers were John Zabokrtsky, Scott Zabokrtsky, Quin Zabokrtsky, Ryan Claeys, Dustin Claeys, Mike Lake, Jr., and Rick Lake. The honorary pallbearers were Kelsey Claeys, Maggie Claeys, Lori Reinke, and Jennifer Zabokrtsky. Burial with Military Honors was in the Marysville City Cemetery. James was born May 14, 1943, near Hanover, KS, son of Henry and Helen (Meyn) Zabokrtsky. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanover and confirmed at Afton Trinity Lutheran Church west of Marysville. He served in the National Guard at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. He worked at the Marysville and Herkimer Co-op and Hoover’s in Greenleaf as a truck driver and fertilizer applicator. James enjoyed his grandchildren, Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas State sports, and animals. James was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tammy Claeys; brother, Ray Zabokrtsky; and sisters, Mary Ann Vater and JoeAnne Peterson. Survivors include his wife, Sherry; son, Jim (Tracy) Zabokrtsky, Beatrice, NE; son-in-law, Dave Claeys, Oketo, KS; brother, Henry Zabokrtsky, Waterville, KS; sisters-n-law, Lola Zabokrtsky, Barnes, KS, and Shirley Mitschler; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
