Francis J. Smith

Francis J. Smith, 90, of Marysville, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at the Frankfort Community Care Home. Visitation was Thursday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Kinsley Mortuary. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Thursday, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 29, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Francis was born July 20, 1925 at Marysville to William and Helena (Ring) Smith. He graduated from Marysville High School. On November 25, 1948, Francis was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Ferguson at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. They lived at the Smith family home place, where he lived his entire life. He was a lifelong farmer, dairy farmer and owned the Blue Rapids Hatchery. Francis was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed going fishing, hunting, playing cards and visiting with family and friends. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Mary Catherine Hildebrandt; son-in-law, Richard Hildebrandt; three brothers and six sisters. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mary Elizabeth; sons, Richard (Pam) Smith, Fred (Carlene) Smith, both of Marysville, Ed (Kim) Smith, Derby, Jim (Cheryl) Smith, Augusta; daughters, Joyce (Terry) Koch, Marysville, Connie (Leo) Stallbaumer, Janet (Robert) Christener, both of Frankfort; twenty-one grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
