Richard L. Argo, 70, of Vliets, KS, died Sunday, May 17, 2009 at his home. A funeral service was held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the Berean Church, Marysville. Rev. Tom Albright and Rev. John Coons officiated. Norm Carpenter read the obituary and Terry Argo gave the eulogy. The prelude was a CD of the Omaha Baptist Bible College Quartet-1958, Richard Argo - 1st Tenor, Ron Hlad - 2nd Tenor, Jack Amon - Bass, and Ray Wagner – Baritone. Matthew Fincham was the violinist and played “No Tears in Heaven” and Just Over In the Glory Land”. Paige Burton was the pianist and Jack Hain sang “How Great Thou Art”. Pallbearers were Jordan Argo, Daniel Argo, Jared Argo, Colby Argo, Joshua Argo and Jeremy Henderson. Honorary bearers were Dan Hooyer, Bob Thompson, Galen Latta, Leonard Akin, Kenny Burton,and Lyle Wenzl. Burial was in the Vermillion Cemetery, Vermillion. Richard was born on February 21, 1939 to Arthur and Helen Argo in Winifred, KS. He lived in Winifred until he was 4 years old, then they moved to a Swedish settlement north of Vliets, KS. He attended Lincoln Grade School and graduated from Vermillion High School in 1957. Richard then attended Omaha Baptist Bible College for 2 years. Richard loved to sing and traveled with a men’s quartet on weekends while in college. During his freshman year he met the girl of his dreams, Jannett Elaine Potter. They married June 5th, 1959 at Perry, IA, and would have celebrated their 50th anniversary next month. They were blessed with 5 children, Patsy, Penny, Rick, Terry and Rocky In April 1965 he started Argo Construction, Inc., building almost 100 homes in Marysville and surrounding areas and remodeled too many to count. Working and meeting people was a real joy to him. Richard was a member on Winifred Baptist Church. He especially enjoyed teaching the youth in Sunday school, leading the songs in church and serving the Lord as a deacon and trustee for many years. He loved the Lord with all his heart. His relaxing time was spent gardening, hunting, skiing and golfing. He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant granddaughter, Tracie Leigh Argo. Survivors include his wife, Jannett; five children, Patsy Argo of Lakewood, CO, Penny Toomer and husband Bob, of Ferron, UT, Rick Argo and wife Cyndy of Blue Rapids, KS, Terry Argo and wife Marnie of Auburn, NE, and Rochy Argo and wife Kristina of Lafayette, IN; eleven grandchildren; four brothers, Don Argo of Marysville, Tom Argo of South Lake Tahoe, CA, Steve Argo of Vliets, KS, and Dave Argo of Tulsa, OK; and two sisters, JoAnn Russell of Centralia, KS, and Joyce Lowry of Newport, TN. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
