Leo P. Eagan, 87, of Axtell, KS, died June 6, 2016. Visitation was Thursday, June 9, from noon until 5 p.m. at the Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home in Axtell. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 9, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Axtell. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 10 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Father Albert Hauser officiated. Kathy Buessing played the organ while the church choir sang “On Eagles Wings”, “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”, “Be Not Afraid”, “Come Home”, and “How Great Thou Art”. The pallbearers were Jim Urquhart, Pat Keating, Gary Rombeck, Barry Buessing, Jim Wassenberg, and Dennis Rottinghaus. Burial was in St. Bridget's Catholic Cemetery, north of Axtell. Leo was born August 1, 1928, on a farm north of Axtell to James and Anna (Mitchell) Eagan. He graduated from St. Bridget Grade School and Axtell High School in 1946. On April 23,1962, he was united in marriage to Marie Rottinghaus, at St Benedict, KS. They lived on the farm where he grew up. Leo was a lifelong farmer and stockman. Survivors include his wife, Marie; daughters, Arlene (Martin) Talbert, Olathe, Janet (Mike) Stretton, Berryton, Laura (Todd) Welborn and Mary (Russ) Neigenfind, both of Topeka; sons, Patrick Eagan, and John Eagan, both of Axtell; sister, Margaret Plegge, Beatrice, NE; and six granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and four sisters. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later.
